Left leaning lifted increases

Hi,

The left/right leaning lifted increases are represented by a symbol that takes up 2 cells. Other increases like make 1 right/left takes up only 1 cell. Why does lifted increases take up 2 cells? I would like to use them, but don't want them to take up 2 cells.

  Never mind my question. I figured out why the stitch takes 2 cells. It is to account for the stitch below which the lifted stitch is taken.
